Join us over porridge and find out about the work of Mary's Meals
9 October 2020 at 18:00:00
Mary's Meals provides a free meal to more than 1.5 million of the world's poorest children at school each day. Many of them could not go to school and would have to spend their days working or begging if they did not receive a free meal.
Keeping girls in school is essential if we are to prevent child marriage and reduce neo-natal mortality.
All children need the education to gain the skills they will need to obtain employment, work the land and raise their families.
When you register I will send you the Zoom link for the meeting
The food provided by Mary's Meals is porridge, made from locally sourced grains, with some additions to make it more nutritious.
Most kids in this country would turn their noses up if they were presented with it for school dinners. But in Africa that is what most people eat each day.
With schools closed due to Covid19 Mary's Meals have been keeping in touch with children and delivering food to their homes.
Mary's Meals are celebrating International Porridge Day on 10-Oct-2020 with a YouTube event https://www.youtube.com/MarysMealsTV
Our event will provide a chance to ask questions about their work.
Make yourself a bowl of porridge:
For each person add 1 oz (28 g) rolled oats to 1/3 pint (200 ml) of cold water per person. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to boil and simmer for 5 minutes, as the porridge thickens add a little cold milk. Serve with a sprinkle of sugar and a dollop of natural yoghurt.
